WILSON, N.C. — Authorities on Saturday located the body of a man who went missing while swimming in Lake Wilson Wednesday afternoon.

Wilson police officers responded to Lake Wilson around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and were told by witnesses that a man went into the water and was overtaken by a strong current.

Authorities said Jeremy M. Tyler, 32, had entered the water voluntarily when he became caught in the heavy current flowing from the dam.

Wilson police said the high volume of water flowing from the dam Wednesday hindered the search for Tyler, but water levels were dropped Thursday so the search could continue.

Authorities said Tyler’s body was found Saturday, about 400 yards downstream from where he was last seen.

Tyler’s death is being investigated as an accidental drowning, police said.
