All lanes of southbound NC 147 were closed near Briggs Avenue Wednesday, creating heavy delays near downtown Durham during the morning commute.

Traffic maps showed northbound delays as well.

Drivers on NC 147 are being diverted onto Briggs Avenue.

There are heavy delays as drivers head out of downtown Durham through the Alston Avenue interchange, stretching back towards around Mangum Street.

Drivers trying to get to I-40 from downtown Durham can use Hwy. 55 as the best alternate route.

Second crash shuts down Durham-area highway, creates major delays

This was the second crash to cause major delays in Durham this morning. All lanes are now open after I-85 southbound was shut down due to a crash.

Despite that crash being cleared, there are heavy residual delays.

Traffic maps show heavy traffic stretching from Falls Lake and extending all the way down to the Club Blvd. area

Coming in front Butner towards Durham, drivers are facing a 51 minute backup.

Cheek Road is your best alternate route to get to I-885.
