SELMA, N.C. — Troopers were called to the scene of a crash involving a school bus on US-301 and Pittman Road in Johnston County. The entire intersection was blocked off as a result.

According to a trooper on the scene, a blue Dodge Charger was heading south on US-301, and the bus was heading west on Pittman Road. Multiple witnesses said the Charger was going very fast, and both vehicles collided at the intersection.

During the crash, the bus, which did not have students on board, ran over a fire hydrant before going nose-first into a ditch. Water gushing from the damaged hydrant created flood waters in the ditch below, where the bus was stuck.

Damage to the Charger seemed severe, with the hood crushed.

According to officials, the bus driver had moderate injuries and the other driver had mild injuries.

Multiple fire trucks and tow trucks responded to the scene. WRAL's Sky 5 captured footage as crews worked to remove the bus from the flooded ditch.

At 4:21 p.m., crews managed to free the bus.

Multiple people in the community told WRAL News this is an intersection the area considers particularly dangerous.
