Crash involving 5 cars slows traffic on I-40 near Garner

A crash has stalled traffic on westbound Interstate 40 near U.S. Highway 70.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A five-car crash stalled traffic on westbound Interstate 40 near U.S. Highway 70 early Monday morning.

The crash occurred before 6:30 a.m. near Garner and Exit 306 for the Clayton Bypass.

Immediately following the crash, drive times between N.C. Highway 42 and Interstate 440 were as high as 85 minutes. At 7:45 a.m., that travel time had reduced to 35 minutes.

By 8 a.m., a tow truck arrived at the scene to clear cars from the road.

Delays could last through the morning commute. Drivers can take U.S. Highway 50 northbound as an alternate.

A second crash was reported on U.S. 70 WB near Guy Road around the same time but cleared by 8 a.m.

Very minor injuries were reported in the crash, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
