I-95 reopens south of Dunn after tractor trailer crash

A tractor trailer crash closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Dunn and Wade for an hour Wednesday morning, creating heavy delays.

DUNN, N.C. — A tractor trailer crash closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Dunn and Wade for an hour Wednesday morning, creating heavy delays.

WRAL's Brett Knese was able to drive past the crash at 6:30 a.m. and said the trailer of the truck appeared to be shredded to pieces. At least one other car was involved.

It was unclear if anyone was injured.

The crash occurred before 5:30 a.m. near Exit 70 for Bud Hawkins Road, heading away from Dunn toward the Wade community. Construction work is ongoing in the area, which added to delays and the time it took to clear the crash from the southbound lanes.

Delays were significant between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., with dozens of tractor trailers parked along I-95 southbound. WRAL traffic cameras showed heavy backups near Long Branch Road.

At 7:30, the lanes had reopened, and traffic was moving slowly.
