— One person was killed Thursday in a crash on the Durham Freeway near Cornwallis Road, authorities said.

A tractor-trailer was southbound on the highway when it rear-ended a pickup truck, and both vehicles pulled off onto the left shoulder, authorities said. Minutes later, another southbound pickup ran off the side of the road and hit the tractor-trailer from behind before coming back onto the highway and getting hit by two other southbound vehicles, authorities said.
