RALEIGH, N.C. — A cement truck snagged power lines in Raleigh Wednesday, bringing down a power pole and knocking out service to the surrounding area including Wake Tech's north campus.

Police said Christopher Lee Faison, 52, of 1101 Moonvalley Lane in Knightdale, was making the turn from Louisburg Road into a driveway near Fox Road, when he clipped the cables overhead. They pulled down the pole and one wire fell on the vehicle behind him.

The community college canceled classes for the rest of the day and evening. Classes will resume as scheduled Thursday morning, said college spokeswoman Laurie Clowers. Classes on other Wake Tech campuses were unaffected.

At its peak, the power outage affected about 2,000 Duke Energy Progress customers along and west of Louisburg Road where it intersects Interstate 540.
