— The morning commute in Durham could be affected by downed power lines after a car accident early Wednesday.

A car hit a power pole at West Markham Avenue and Washington Street shortly after midnight, authorities said.

The power pole and power lines came down on Washington Street.

Duke Energy said it would take hours to clean up the damage, which would likely affect drivers’ commutes Wednesday morning.

Washington Street was closed near West Markham Avenue.
