CPSC issues warning, troubling video after child gets caught under Peloton Tread+
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sent out a warning about the Peloton Tread+ after nearly 40 incidents of people getting hurt.
Posted — UpdatedThe Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sent out a warning about a Peloton brand treadmill after nearly 40 incidents of people getting hurt.
The CPSC said they're aware of dozens of instances where children were sucked beneath the Tread+, formerly known as the Tread.
To highlight the dangers, the CPSC released a video of a young boy appearing to get caught underneath a machine while playing with another child at home. The child was able to escape and walk away.
Still, CPSC staff feel the Tread+ "poses serious risks" to children and has urged those with children at home to stop using it. The agency has learned of children becoming trapped, pinned and pulled under the back of the machine.
CPSC is aware of 39 incidents including one death, a pet getting injured and objects being sucked beneath the machine. The commission has launched an investigation into the death.
Peloton has issued a response to the CPSC's report, calling it "inaccurate and misleading."
"Peloton cares deeply about the safety of its Members and one of its core values is putting Members first. The company is troubled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) unilateral press release about the Peloton Tread+ because it is inaccurate and misleading. There is no reason to stop using the Tread+, as long as all warnings and safety instructions are followed. Children under 16 should never use the Tread+, and Members should keep children, pets, and objects away from the Tread+ at all times."
