Soon, you'll be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine at the grocery store.

Harris Teeter says the vaccines will be available at 119 of its North Carolina locations. All Harris Teeters with pharmacies will administer the vaccines.

Shoppers at the Harris Teeter on Ninth Street in Durham said they loved the idea that they could one day not only get their groceries, but their coronavirus vaccines too.

"I think I go to Harris Teeter like three times a week," said Thomas Murphy. "I like to cook a lot, so I'm here often. I totally understand it. I think it makes a lot of sense for them to have vaccines here just because it's so accessible."

"To find out that I could come here and get it would be really easy. I wouldn't have to worry about trying to find a place I might know the address of," said Pamela Joyner.

Joyner said she's worried about the virus because she's 63 years old and has asthma.

"I wanted it yesterday, and my son wanted it for me two weeks before that," said Joyner about being able to receive the vaccine.

Harris Teeter has already started giving the vaccines in their pharmacies in South Carolina. Right now, there's no timeline for when vaccinations could begin in North Carolina or how many doses each store would get.

"We did our first week's allocation ... it was 100 per store location that had a pharmacy. We don't know yet what it's going to be for North Carolina," said Danna Robinson, a spokesperson for Harris Teeter.

Harris Teeter says when they do get doses in North Carolina, they will immediately update their website. The vaccines will be given only to those eligible, and by appointment only.

Shoppers said they were hopeful that as more places offer the vaccine, the pace will speed up.

"The pace of the rollout has been obviously slower than people would have liked," said Josie Tueller. "The more places we can get it more quickly, that would be a lot better for all of us."

Harris Teeter said for your best shot to get an appointment, keep checking back on their website.
