KINSTON, N.C. — A husband and wife were found dead Tuesday evening in a home near Kinston, authorities said.

A friend who wasn't able to contact Paul Anthony Brown, 67, and Melody Anglett Brown, 55, during the day went over to their house, at 1560 Cobblestone Drive, at about 5:30 p.m. and found the front door open. The friend saw one of them unconscious on the floor inside and called 911.

Lenoir County deputies went inside the home and found the couple dead. The cause of their deaths hasn't been determined, and the bodies have been sent to a medical examiner for autopsy.

No charges had been filed by Wednesday afternoon, but Sheriff Ronnie Ingram said he doesn't believe the community is in danger.

"Losing a loved one is always difficult, but losing them at the hands of another, especially during the Christmas holidays, is something that no one should experience," Ingram said in a statement. "Our detectives and deputies are putting their full effort into identifying this suspect or suspects and bringing that person to justice.”

Anyone with information that could help investigators can call the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office at 252-559,6100.
