ANGIER, N.C. — Despite setbacks due to COVID-19, The Country Yard Party was back on in Harnett County on Saturday.

The event brought back music while also focusing on social distancing. Organizers wanted to make safety a priority at the event, and they created strict guidelines for guests who attended.

The Country Yard Party was initially organized for May, but because of COVID-19, organizer Paige Johnson said she decided to wait. She worked with the town's Chamber of Commerce and the Harnett County Sheriff's Office to create the safest environment she could.

People had the option of staying in their cars or staying within their square on the lawn. Johnson said they had several hand-washing stations and they also distributing masks to anyone who forgot theirs.

“As we’ve been selling tickets, we’re hearing that they're just so happy that they finally have something to get dressed up for, even if they’re sitting in their cars the whole time," Johnson said. "Just to have something to be able to see friends from far away and be able to get some normalcy.

"It’s not how it used to be, but we’re gonna be here for a while, so I figured it’s time to be a mover and shaker to figure out how we can progress forward in all this stuff."

Johnson said people were screened when purchasing tickets online. They were asked to stay home if they had any symptoms. Johnson was expecting close to 300 people for Saturday's event.
