Wilson Community Church closes offices, cancels in-person services after 2 members test positive for coronavirus
Two members of Wilson Community Church have tested positive for coronavirus, prompting the church to pull back from in-person services, at least for two weeks.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to a post on the church Facebook page, the most recent positive test came Wednesday. A person who attended the 11 a.m. service on Sunday began to feel ill that afternoon and got tested on Monday.
"We are thankful to report that the individual is feeling much better today with few symptoms," the church wrote on Facebook.
According to senior paster Gary Combs, the church has been holding services with about 120 people as opposed to the usual 400 or so.
Church offices are closed and any group activities are canceled through the next two weeks.
The church did take precautions to avoid the potential for any spread of the virus.
"we did everything we could to limit touching of any surface," Combs said. "So all doors were propped open. Our ushers, our children's teachers anyone who would come closer than six feet, potentially, was wearing a mask. We had cleaning teams who cleaned the building before each Sunday."
"I think a lot of our churches have done a really good job of trying to care for their members and take the necessary precautions," said Chad Austin, the spokesperson for the Baptist State Convention of NC.
Austin added that they don’t track the cases at their affiliate churches, but they are hearing about them anecdotally and providing assistance where they can.
