Weaver Street Market will begin requiring masks for everyone starting August 3 based on the newest CDC recommendations.

In addition, many stores are now requesting that all customers wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.

In a statement on the Weaver Street Maker website and in a message sent to customers via e-mail on Friday, July 30, the company indicated the following:
"Starting this Tuesday, August 3, shoppers will once again be required to wear a mask inside Weaver Street Market. We will provide free masks if you don’t have one, and our employees will continue to wear masks.

The CDC now says that even vaccinated people should wear masks indoors in our area. As of today both Orange and Wake Counties are above the CDC threshold of 50 weekly cases per 100,000. The current variant is very contagious and even vaccinated people can readily spread it, according to the latest CDC information.

The Governor said yesterday that the State does not plan to reinstate its mask mandate, but he did urge businesses and local governments to take appropriate action.

When we changed to masks encouraged at the end of May, cases had dropped to a low level and the CDC had announced that vaccinated people didn’t need to wear masks indoors. But after six weeks of steady improvement, cases in our area are increasing rapidly, and the CDC now says that vaccinated people should wear a mask indoors.

We’re very sorry that we have to take this step. We were all hoping things would continue to get better, but unfortunately they have taken a turn for the worse. Thank you for working together as a co-op by once again wearing a mask when you shop!"

Additional Updated Mask Policies

At this time, no other area grocery stores have reinstituted the mask mandate but that could change at any time. Many stores are once again requiring employees to wear masks as the virus numbers increase due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant.

On July 30, 2021, Walmart announced that employees in high transmission areas will be required to wear a mask.

The company shared, "We will follow CDC guidance, which includes fully vaccinated people wearing masks in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission. In these counties and where there are state or local mask mandates, associates will be required to wear masks inside our facilities, including stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers. "

See the Walmart statement on their website.

In addition, multiple stores are encouraging all customers to wear a mask, especially in areas where the level of virus transmission is high.

On July 30, Publix added the following statement to their website:
"Please wear face coverings and stay socially distanced. The CDC recommends people in areas of substantial- or high-transmission risk wear face coverings over their noses and mouths when in public, indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status."
At The Fresh Market, their employees have continued to wear masks, according to the company.

Most stores have their latest mask policies posted on the front door.
