Wake County leaders meeting to discuss 2020-21 school calendar, budget
School districts in North Carolina plan to get children back in the classroom earlier rather than later.
Posted — UpdatedWake County Schools leaders will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss the budget and schedule for the 2020-21 school year.
The current plan is for a traditional year -- Aug. 17-June 11.
In Wake County, leaders have not yet indicated what the non-traditional school year could look like but say it will be determined by the state health guidance and legislative requirements. Remote learning, however, is not off the table.
According to Wake County Schools, nearly 14,000 people responded to a survey sent out about online schooling. The deadline to complete that is Wednesday.
Funding is another topic. On Monday, Wake County Manager David Ellis released his proposed budget for the school district for $515.96 million, which is the same historic amount received last year.
Supt. Cathy Moore asked the county for a $545 million contribution -- nearly $30 million more.
A meeting will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss budgeting and plans for the next school year.
