RALEIGH, N.C. — With no appointments necessary and simplified forms, Wake County is making an effort to making getting the COVID-19 vaccine as easy as possible.

Wake County is opening COVID-19 vaccine clinics for walk-in and drive-thru vaccinations on Tuesday. Appointments aren't necessary.

Clinics are mostly offering the Pfizer vaccine. Appointments can be made for faster service. A clinic at the Human Services Center on Departure Drive opens at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Several weeks back, Wake Co. officials got rid of the wait list to sign up for a vaccine.

Previously, Wake Co. was seeing fewer people signing up for their shots. One recent week saw vaccination clinics in Raleigh have just 58 percent of their appointments booked. Ryan Jury, who oversees Wake County's vaccination efforts, said he felt it was an access issue.

"Currently, we have the ability to administer 30,000 vaccines per week. What we are trying to do is to promote availability to access throughout the community by opening more sites," Jury said.

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden is expected to address the state of vaccinations in the U.S. as reports circulate the country may not reach herd immunity.

On Monday, the White House announced a texting service where you can text your zip code to 'getvax' and get three vaccination locations in your area.
