The Childcare Network daycare center in Sanford has been shut down following the discovery of two COVID-19 cases at the facility.

The doors of the facility are closed, and for most of the morning nobody was around, until a woman who identified herself as the center's director arrived.

She did not speak with WRAL News on camera, but said that the center never closed during the statewide stay-at-home order.

The center has been caring for the children of first responders.

A source close to the situation told WRAL News that the first case was discovered on the night of May 10. The center was not shut down at that point, and a second case was discovered on Tuesday.

The source indicated that parents were not notified of the cases until Wednesday.

The company's headquarters did not respond to those specific allegations, but did issue a statement.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the facility will remain closed for the recommended 14-day self-quarantine period, re-opening on Tuesday, May 26," the statement said.

The health department and the administration of the center will be making contact with those who may have been exposed to those infected.
