Three COVID-19 clusters reported at ECU

More than 400 East Carolina University students are under a COVID-19 quarantine on Wednesday.

GREENVILLE, N.C. — More than 400 East Carolina University students are under a COVID-19 quarantine on Wednesday.

ECU said it working to contain three new clusters, including one at Ballard-East Residence Hall (five cases), one at Ballard-West Residence Hall (five cases) and the ECU volleyball team (five cases).

In the last week, nearly 250 students and staff members at the Greenville university tested positive for the virus.

A “cluster” is defined by the state Department of Health and Human Services as a minimum of five cases within a 14-day period. A group moves from the active category after going 28 days without a new positive case, ECU said.
