Testing and research

— The principal of The Franciscan School in Raleigh has tested positive for coronavirus.

The private school will be closed on Tuesday to give school officials time to consult with the health department.

In a letter sent to parents, Michael Watson said he felt sick on last Wednesday and was not at work on Thursday and Friday.

Watson said the school typically does not identify someone who tests positive because of privacy concerns, but he was choosing to do so.

He explained that, because of the school's protocols, for face coverings and social distancing, school leaders did not have strong concerns about serious or widespread exposures.

Watson recommended anyone who had concerns about exposure at the school should contact their health provider.
