RALEIGH, N.C. — Confirmed coronavirus cases are growing in North Carolina, which just had another record-breaking weekend.
Saturday marked the highest number of daily cases North Carolina has seen yet -- 2,462 -- and the highest number of hospitalizations reported on a single day. View all NC cases.

Even as more testing sites open to meet demand, many locations are booked.

According to state officials, about 23,000 tests are being completed each day. About 10% of those come back positive.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen called the numbers "concerning," and Gov. Roy Cooper has repeatedly said the data will determine if North Carolina moves into its next phase on July 17.
If North Carolina enters Phase 3, certain venues like bars, gyms and movie theaters may be able to reopen. Cooper is also expected to make an announcement on whether schools will open Aug. 17 as planned.
