Hello, everyone. I'm meteorologist, Mike Mays and the W R L Severe Weather center with the forecast update for this Thursday night. Now, as we start our day on Friday, we expect plenty of clouds like we have this morning and also some spotty rain as possible, but it's about a 20% chance. So it's not likely you'll need your umbrella 64 by eight AM. So it will be another mild start. And at the bus stop just a small chance for a shower, mostly cloudy skies to start. The day. 62 is the low by 10 AM, partly cloudy up to about 72. Now, we had a high of 79 today in Raleigh 82 in Fayetteville for the day Friday. Watch out for a few afternoon showers like we've seen for the past couple of afternoons moving from the northeast to the southwest, our high 84 if we have enough sunshine for our Friday afternoon. Now, our three day forecast heading into the weekend, we have a cold front on the way. There is our 84 for our Friday, 86 possible. On Saturday, we have a northeast wind 10 to 15 and when I think of a northeast wind don't think of it as being a hot wind. So we're watching to see if we actually get up to 87 it's a 20% chance for a shower, 40% chance for showers and storms heading into the evening. Sunday. Behind the cold front, cooler, less humid, 76 with partly cloudy skies statewide for the day tomorrow. Anywhere from 79 to 85 in Fayetteville. 80 in Wilmington. Those little green spots that potential for a shower during the afternoon for the day, Saturday, showers possible thunderstorms as we head into the evening hours, 87 in Raleigh, 89 in Fayetteville, 80 at Boone 83 in Wilmington. And then for the day on Sunday behind the front 76 in Raleigh 79 Fayetteville, 75 in Greensboro. So it will be cooler and it will be less humid. So overnight, mostly cloudy skies. Low temperatures will be in the low to maybe mid 60 62 in Raleigh 64 in Fayetteville. And then for the day Friday, our highs will be in the eighties. A few afternoon showers are possible about 84 here in Raleigh seven day forecast. Once we get that front to come by Saturday, it's cooler on Sunday, 77. We're watching for another upper level low next week that could bring some showers Monday and Tuesday, but also some less humid air for Wednesday and Thursday, perhaps due points falling back into the forties, those morning lows back in the fifties. Fort Bragg's renaming ceremony is taking place Thursday evening with a half-mile Sunset Liberty March, located at Honeycutt and Liberty Trail (formerly Bragg Boulevard). The Sunset Liberty March honors the legacy of Liberty built by the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while assigned to this installation. 

The military, the military was part of it. The community was given the mission to, to redesign this name to make it so that this was a better for it and that we were better. That was the mission and the community got together and uh CS M England and General mcneil over here and a number of you out here were part of that to change and make this installation better. And as they went through the process, uh many, many names were considered Sergeant Alvin York from the 82nd. Uh If, if, if you ever think of s Sergeant Alvin York in his story, um he had problems with alcohol. He got better. He became a devout Christian. He was a conscientious objector, his chaplain and his chain of command worked him through that. So that on decisive day at a decisive time, he won the medal of honor. And after that, Omar Bradley brought him back when he was the eight. He's Omar Bradley is actually the first uh 82nd Airborne Division commander and he brought him back. And there's a famous speech called valor indoors. Alvin York gave to the 82nd Airborne Division and talked about what they needed to do. A man who contributed Shear and Gordon asked several times to go in to save their down crew, their down pilots and crew. Everybody knew they were going to die. Everybody. And finally they allowed them to go. They both gave their lives. Won the medal of honor, Roy Benavides, Rob Miller, specialist Elliott. Who are you gonna pick? There's nobody that you could pick that can talk about the culture and what this installation is. That's why nobody could come up with it. And a gold star mom in that meeting ultimately said, we can't pick anybody, whoever we pick will leave so many other people behind and don't forget people to come. You will leave behind, not only at that point but people to come, you will leave them behind. And she actually made us think about it and I wasn't present but many people here were, she actually raised our, she raised our consciousness and said, it's not about a person, it's about a culture, it's about a community. And she said it's my son gave his life for liberty. And if you think about it, she made us talk about the right things, not about organizations, not about what community they came from, but about what we're about what people from this post go and do liberty. And if you thought about it, that gold star mom had the intestinal fortitude and the guts to rise above it it wasn't about anything else. It was about what was right and she had the guts to do that. So what this walk is about is paying back to her to pay him back to this community. The roots of this walk are from Ngan. OK. Uh The five oh four crossed the Wall River and gave liberty to the town of Ngan when they built a bridge over the n uh over the river there, the Wall River, they put in 48 lights for the 48 paratroopers who gave their life to give them their liberty and they did it on their own. And the veterans of nine Megan every night for the last 3000, 152 nights have never failed to come out and honor those 48 paratroopers. And that's where this idea comes from. They've never failed. Somebody has been here every night because they know what the cost of liberty is. That's why we had to raise our game and match what members of this community came up with. That's what this is about. I'm sure all of you feel the same way on Memorial Day. I always feel a little hollow. We always say we're going to remember every day. But I know I don't, this is about our ability to remember every day and all these things are coming together and it goes back to the mission that this community was given to make this better. That's our nation. That's what this is all about. This is a very, very simple process that we will do. It's modeled after the one in nine Megan. We all line up on the first day. Everyone who showed up today, you're the veteran of the day. Everyone is going forward. There will be one veteran of the day and they will honor those members from this installation who gave their lives on that day. And anyone else who you want to honor, you will receive a certificate that says you are the veteran of the day and you marched, representing their sons every day. You can go on to a website. We'll talk all about that stuff. We asked the team to build this. They did remarkable. They built this in about three weeks. This is not what it's gonna be, this is gonna become something else. We already have the plans, all that other stuff that will all work out. But what we do tonight will be what we do every day. And that's what it's about about making this community, this post, the people, the people who gave everything, the families who gave everything better. And that's what this is all about. So, thank you all very much for coming out again and about at exactly 2023 we'll step off, we'll walk up to the far end, uh myself and the CS M and a few others will walk to the far side. We'll salute the flag and we'll walk back a very simple ceremony to honor their sons and everybody else. So again, thank you all for coming up. Do that. Yeah, the thank you ladies think. Neighbors in Columbia, South Carolina, continue to mourn the shooting death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton.



A drill of empty packaged water will show you where Cyrus was running from to where he was shot in the back. It was heartbreaking 16 year old Kevin Snyder was one of many adding flowers to a growing makeshift memorial for Cyrus Snyder saying this incident hits close to home. It really could have been me. It could have been anybody. Leon lot said it best that you know, a bottle of water should not have to take a person's life, especially a 14 year old in our community, a community now doing what they can to come together. But also outraged. We already have one incident of a store owner. Then the city and law officials need to do whatever they can to investigate that individual and make sure that it doesn't happen. John Tyler is a community activist. He's referring to incidents like this caught on camera where the gas station owner, Rick Chow appears to be fighting another young customer with this being not only his first but his third infraction as a store owner, me as an activist and a citizen want to know why wasn't he stopped the second time district Councilwoman Gretchen Baron also coming to the gas station and memorial saying the community just needs to support Cyrus's family for now. They don't have their child. That that's heartbreaking to me that they don't have their child. So I want us to be able to really wrap our arms around this family first and allow them to heal. And also asking for a stop to the vandalism of the now boarded up convenience store after a night of looting, the sheriff now putting extra patrol there. But if we got deputies here watching this building, then they're not doing their job on the street. And now we're using resources that were not intended for this project.

I MEAN, WE YOU KNOW, WE WERE WE GOT THE PHONE OUT REAL QUICK. THE MAN TRIES TO PULL THE DOOR OPEN AFTER HE SMASHES THE WINDOW AND THEN GIVES UP CLIMBING IN SCHUMACHER. TOLD ME SHE WAS A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. SO WE STAYED A LITTLE DISTANCE FROM THE CAR AND, YOU KNOW, MADE SURE THAT WE WE'VE GOT A REALLY GOOD PICTURE OF HIS FACE. THE COUPLE POSTED THE IMAGES ON FACEBOOK AND SCHUMACHER SAYS AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN PEOPLE HAVE REACHED OUT. EVERYONE IS IDENTIFIED THE SAME PERSON. EVERYONE HAS IDENTIFIED THE SAME PERSON. NOW, CARY POLICE. I SPOKE WITH HIM A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO ARE INVESTIGATING THIS INCIDENT. THEY SAY IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL IF IT'S LINKED TO THE KERRY HOTEL BREAK-INS, LENA, THAT IS BOLD. Every night North Carolina native Brooke Simpson brings a piece of her family's history on stage when she stars in "1776" at DPAC.

I, I'm really honored to be a part of this show. Uh But also because of how our directors Diane Paulus and Jeffrey L Page um have uh incorporated America's original people. You know, before we ever put up our coming soon, sign there already was a nation here and that was indigenous people. Um So, with that at the top of the show before, um it even truly begins and the curtain opens and you enter into our world, I step out onto that stage and I give a land acknowledgment. Um And what's cool about doing that on tour is in every single city. I get to say the specific tribe names of whose land we're on uh to honor them. And it's really special right now being um in North Carolina because I get to not only say tribes of people that I grew up with, but also my own personal tribe called the Wasaon. Um So it's just, it's such an honor and it feels so empowering. Um And it feels like almost like a, a moment of pro protest, like it feels like I'm, I'm taking that power back and standing in my ancestors, power um, but in addition to that, I also get to wear a medallion, which is a beaded piece of native artwork, uh, that sits on, uh, it's like a necklace and it sits on my chest the entire show as a sign that we are still here. Um, and, uh, that specific necklace, it's been in my family for years, for generations actually, um, from the bead work that my grandmother and my great grandmother passed down to my cousin and she made it about over 30 years ago for my dad to dance in when he was still like a young man. So, um it's really special and I feel like I'm, I have a piece of my personal heritage, but also my culture um on that Broadway stage with me, it's really special. Well, that's another thing I really love about our, the creative team for our show. Um They wanted to make sure that they incorporated all of our personal um personalities and cultures and backgrounds to some extent in our um modern look in the show. So uh whether it's my medallion or even my earrings that I wear in the show, they are also earrings that I got when I was a little girl at one of the halo was pows. Um But then also there's uh Lulu who plays Sam Chase in the show, she wears um earrings and a necklace that serves as um a symbol for her mother's tribe in the Philippines So there's so many different specific things that are unique to us as we're standing in our own power on that stage. Um But also stepping in the shoes of these founding fathers. Um And it's, it's really powerful to have a piece of who we are on that stage, especially considering a lot of us and who we are. We weren't considered in those conversations way back then. Uh So to be telling that story and to have pieces of who we are as we're stepping into those shoes, it's um it's very empowering even from the beginning when we were having the rehearsals. Like back in April 2020 two, sorry, we've been in this process for a long time, but back last April before we actually did the Broadway run, uh I remember we walked into the rehearsal room and they had these things all over the wall, these mood boards that had pictures from our personal Instagrams. Um and all these things because they wanted to personalize the modern look so much to us. It's, it's been a really cool process, please. If I'm remembering correctly, I think what? And I made that video descend to the W R A L fam because I love you guys so much. Um But I believe that was when we were on Broadway, I was playing a different role in the show Roger Sherman at the time. But I believe that that was the first time I was making my debut, um, understudy, the role that I'm now doing full time on the tour, which is the courier. So, it's kind of full circle. That's really cool. Yeah.
