Months after the first deposits went out, some people still haven't received their economic stimulus payment. The majority of recipients, 160 million people, already have their federal money – but roughly 9 million are still waiting.

The major thing many of them probably don’t realize: They may need to register for it – and time is running out fast.

Anyone who hasn’t received a stimulus payment yet, and believes they should have, needs to take action by Oct. 15.
According to the IRS, the majority of people still waiting for payment don’t typically file federal tax returns because of low income, so the agency doesn’t have their information.
To get the word out, the IRS will start mailing a letter next week urging people to register to claim the money through www.irs.gov.

Individuals can receive up to $1,200. Married couples up to $2,400, with an additional $500 for each qualifying child.

If you’re still waiting and aren’t part of the non-filers group, check the "get my payment" page on the IRS website.
If you didn't file taxes last year, the IRS needs to hear from you.
Find the agency’s extensive FAQ list here.

Or call the IRS help number at 800-829-1040.

Those who are eligible and don’t get the money can file it as a tax credit next year.
