It's been a busy Mother’s Day weekend as shoppers made their way to stores reopening for the first time in weeks.

Some places like Best Buy are still sticking to curbside pick-up only. Other stores are reducing hours and sticking to strict social distance guidelines.

Shoppers at TJ Maxx in Brier Creek put up with long lines on Mother’s Day. With retailers and small businesses reopening, shoppers say the wait was worth it.
"It feels good to get out of the house because you get tired of being closed in," said Morisville resident Kimberly Mims.
"For me, they have everything that you need at really low prices," Brier Creek resident Rashia Wright said. "I can get something for myself (and) my mom."

The retail experience is different now.

Staff at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s prepared for the wave of customers this weekend. A Marshall's employee said all employees are wearing masks, dressing rooms are closed and the store is using one-way movement through aisles.
"They sanitize the carts," said Durham resident Clarence Lucas. "They’re doing a lot. They’re doing a lot."

Dick’s Sporting Goods reopened some of its stores after being limited to curbside pick-up only.

Employee there must clean checkout areas after each transaction, sanitize carts and baskets, and teammates must wear face masks.

Shoppers out and about say they’re impressed with how retailers are adapting to a ‘new normal.'

"They're doing as much as they can," said Lucas. "There’s only so much a store can do other than not open."

Some stores are playing it safe and are choosing not to reopen. You may want to call ahead and check online to see which stores are open.
