Read Across America Day goes virtual on Tuesday during the pandemic, with guest readers including WRAL's Renee Chou and Gilbert Baez.

Beginning at 10 a.m., North Carolina students and teachers can join a virtual Zoom call, where they'll hear stories about diversity from a special guest panel. The event is hosted by the North Carolina Association of Educators.

Speakers include NCAE President Tamika Walker Kelly, NCAE Vice President Bryan Proffitt, Rep. Ricky Hurtado, Sen. Jay Chaudhuri, N.C. Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green and N.C. First Lady Kristin Cooper.

As part of the event, Easton Elementary in Forsyth County, Knox Middle School in Iredell County and Bladen Lakes Primary School in Bladen County will each receive a donation of books focusing on diversity.

The theme of the event is “North Carolina Readers: Letting Our Diversity Shine Through One Book at a Time.”

Teachers, parents, students and anyone who loves to hear stories can join the call at this link.
