Raleigh mayor tests positive for COVID-19, Tuesday's city council meeting to be held virtually

Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin has tested positive for COVID-19.

The mayor took an in-home test on Monday morning and tested positive. She told WRAL News she is not showing any symptoms.

On Monday, Raleigh leaders announced Tuesday’s city council meeting will be held virtually “due to health concerns and out of an abundance of caution.”

The city plans to contact anyone who had signed up to speak during Tuesday’s meeting with information on how to speak at the virtual meeting.

From April 3-9, the latest statewide COVID-19 case data available, North Carolina added 4,741 new cases of COVID-19. It was a 44% increase from the 3,074 new cases added from March 27 – April 3.

Last month, the Raleigh City Council resumed in-person meetings after more than two years of meeting only online.
