GREENVILLE, N.C. — Pitt County Court sessions will be canceled Wednesday after a courthouse employee tested positive for coroanvirus.

All court cases that were supposed to be heard Wednesday will be rescheduled.

The district attorney's office will also be closed Wednesday.

The clerk of court's cashiers, estates/special proceedings and civil divisions will be open on Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office and the Register of Deeds will also be open.

Court officials said the decision to close was made after consulting with the Pitt County public health director.

The Pitt County case is just the latest time the virus has affected court activities across North Carolina.

In Durham County, for example, an employee of the court clerk's office tested positive this week, prompting extensive sanitizing of the areas where the person worked and other workers in close contact being sent home.
