PineCone is offering virtual bluegrass camps for kids this month

PineCone, a local nonprofit that delivers all kinds of bluegrass performances and instruction across the Triangle, is going virtual with its popular annual summer camps.

The Virtual Bluegrass Camps, featuring instruction in the fiddle, mandolin and guitar, run June 22 to June 26. They're designed for young musicians ages 8 to 15.

Here's a description:

This virtual camp will include large-group sessions focused on daily themes such as accompaniment; rhythm and melody; tab versus learning by ear; and more. Students will also learn some bluegrass history! Following the large group session, students will break out into groups by instrument to work on their own playing with guidance from the instructors. Students will also have opportunities each day to work with the instructors in smaller groups for more specific feedback on their own playing.

The cost is $121 with discounts for siblings. More information is on PIneCone's website.

Also, this week, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m, Wednesday, June 17, PineCone will offer a session called How to Learn a Fiddle Tune from a Recording, featuring renowned fiddle player Tatiana Hargreaves. A suggested donation for the session is $10. Check PineCone's website for details about this one too. This program is for all ages — kids to adults.
