Person County elementary school moves online after COVID cluster for second time

TIMBERLAKE, N.C. — For the second time, a Person County elementary school is moving all classes online because of a coronavirus cluster.

School officials said the cluster at Helena Elementary School involves one staff member and four students.

All classes will be taught online starting Monday until Dec. 15. In-person instruction will resume on Dec. 16.

Officials said there are some students who will need to quarantine, but the parents of those students have already been contacted.

The elementary school moved online for a week on Oct. 26 after a coronavirus cluster was reported at the school.
As of Dec. 4, Person County Schools has reported 53 coronavirus cases since Aug. 17. Thirty-two of those cases are students and 21 of the cases are staff members.
