Craig Prince, Kevin Miller and friends designed the website PledgeMyCheck.org where people can pledge part of or all of their check to families or organizations helping people in need.

RALEIGH, N.C. — While the majority of Americans are clamoring for stimulus checks doled out by the government, others are giving the extra cash away to those in need.

Prince has an electrical engineering degree and now works with NCSU’s Department of Social Innovation + Entrepreneurship. They worked with friends to design the website PledgeMyCheck.org where folks can pledge part of or all of their check to families or organizations helping people in need.

"Here is a super easy way to take something that essentially was put in your lap and say, 'I want to use this to help other people,'" said Prince.

No cash is taken online. It’s just a way to generate momentum and remind people of ways they can help their communities.

"This is an opportunity to help somebody, especially somebody that you know, so the majority of folks that are giving are giving to people who are down their street or people that they work with who they know who are laid off. It’s somebody they see that’s in currently a tough situation," said Miller.

According to this website, about $60,000 dollars has been pledged already from more than 100 people across 15 states.
