RALEIGH, N.C. — COVID-19 vaccines are available, and for many, masks are on their way out. That is spurring a new optimism in the Triangle area jobs market.

That’s according to research from Monster.com, a global employment website.

"Our goal is to help candidates and employers find the right fit," explained Scott Blumsack, senior vice president of research and insights for Monster.com.

He says the right career fit for many people may be found on the site’s list of the "Top 10 Jobs in the Raleigh-Metro Market" over the past 30 days.

Here's the list of the top jobs:

  • 10. Food service team members
  • 9. Project team manager
  • 8. Office/Admin Assistant
  • 7. Laborer/Warehouse worker
  • 6. Retail store manager/Supervisor
  • 5. Customer service representative
  • 4. Retail sales associate
  • 3. Registered nurse
  • 2. Sales representative
  • 1. Software developer/Engineer

"First, we’ll see continued strength in areas which actually were strong throughout the pandemic. So we see continued strength in areas of software development and technology, registered nursing and health care. Those are some of the areas where demand has remained strong," according to Blumsack.

Some businesses most affected by COVID-19 precautions are now ready and eager to hire. Blumsack sees "more activity in the areas like food service and areas like retail which is really indicative of the economy starting to open up."

The lingering challenge, he says, is that some parents are hesitant to return to the work force because of worries about childcare as well as health and safety issues at schools. Others are concerned about the potential health risks of going back to a crowded work place.

"So really having the employers communicate what they’re doing with the policies and procedures as things open up is going to be critical," explained Blumsack.

With those issues settled, he says job seekers may find their fit as a retail sales associate or perhaps a customer service rep.

Store managers, supervisors and administrative office assistants are in demand. So are project managers.

The growth of e-commerce fuels a greater need for warehouse workers. Blumsack said, "We’ve seen so many employers having to increase wages or take pay bonuses as a means to attract workers."
