FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Now that Cape Fear Valley Health (CFVH) is offering COVID-19 vaccines to everyone 16 and older, here's a handy Q&A guide for those who haven't been through the process of scheduling a vaccine appointment yet and want to do so.
  • Yes. Health care workers, frontline essential workers, senior citizens and teachers can still book appointments.
  • No, you don't have to live in Fayetteville or Cumberland County to get a vaccine from CFVH.
  • You can schedule a vaccination for the community vaccine clinic online. You'll need to give your first and last name, email address, phone number and what group you're in. If you're unsure of what group you're in, check out the state's guide to determine where you fall. You'll be allowed to pick a location depending on the availability of open slots.
  • The Cape Fear Valley Health group accepts appointments for a given week starting on the previous Friday.
  • No, appointments aren't required to receive a second dose, but it's asked that you return to the same location in which you received the first dose.
  • Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center Auditorium in Fayetteville (Offers Pfizer vaccine)
  • Health Pavilion North ExpressCare in north Fayetteville (Offers Pfizer vaccine) First doses will be administered on Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown (Offers Moderna vaccine) First doses will be administered on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Hoke Hospital in Raeford (Offers Moderna vaccine) This clinic will only be offering second doses to those who have already received their first dose at Hoke Hospital.
  • Hoke Pharmacy in Raeford (Offers Moderna vaccine) First doses will be administered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Center Pharmacy in Downtown Fayetteville (Offers Pfizer vaccine) First doses will be administered on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Yes, the CFVH Rehabilitation Center Auditorium in Fayetteville (1638 Owen Drive) will host a one-time walk-in clinic for the J&J vaccine on Wednesday, March 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The J&J vaccine only requires one dose, although it should be noted it is not approved for teenagers under 18.
  • The Pfizer vaccine is available to those ages 16 and older. The Moderna and J&J vaccines require its recipients to be at least 18.

"It was such an easy process," said Joan Kirkpatrick. "It changes a lot because now I feel like I'm safe in the community now. I'm more glad to be a part of this process of eliminating this virus so we can get back to our normal lives."

During the state's COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Dr. Mandy Cohen noted that almost a third (31.7%) of adults have received at least one dose of the vaccination, and 18.8% are fully vaccinated.

"I urge everybody to get it," said John Rivera, who got vaccinated recently. "I'm not surprised that in this great country, it's possible to roll out a vaccine to fight a pandemic like this, this quickly."

"Our vaccine equity efforts remain a priority, along with speed," Gov. Roy Cooper said in a tweet. "We're continuing to vaccinate people in a way that’s fast and fair."

The number of new COVID-19 cases in the state has plateaued, as opposed to decreasing as it had been in recent weeks. Cohen did say the state "was in a positive place."

"Every shot in an arm gets us closer to turning the corner on this pandemic," Cooper said.

The state says any adult in North Carolina who wants a coronavirus vaccine shot will be able to get one by May 1. Last week, CFVH crossed the 100,000 dose milestone.
