Six Cardinal Gibbons High School students test positive for COVID
Six students at Cardinal Gibbons High School have tested positive for COVID-19. Based off contact tracing, the administration said that these infections occurred off-campus and not in the classroom.
Posted — UpdatedSchool officials said that their safety measures are working, and "to our knowledge, there has been no disease transmission on campus."
In a letter to families, Jeff Bell, head of the school, said that the cases appear to be isolated and there does not appear to be a "cluster" of coronavirus cases at the high school.
If someone has come in contact with the four students who tested positive for the virus they will be notified via email, school officials said.
Jeff Bell wrote that the Wake County Health Department advised them that, "as long as other students and educators wore their masks and were not within six feet of the students inside for more than 15 minutes, there is no need for the students or educators to quarantine for 14 days."
Each night campus is cleaned to meet the standard for the Wake County Health Department, school officials said.
In total, seven students at Cardinal Gibbons have tested positive for coronavirus since July.
A student athlete had tested positive for the virus at Cardinal Gibbons before school started. The student was screened for symptoms upon arriving at Cardinal Gibbons for a small group outdoor workout and was sent home. The student did not participate in activities or enter the building, but later tested positive. Cardinal Gibbons did not say which sport the student participates in.
