CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — On Saturday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office shared a post in honor of a former deputy who passed away from COVID-19.

"It is with great sadness that I report the passing of former Orange County Deputy Sheriff, Norman 'Tree' Daye," wrote Sheriff Charles Blackwood.

Blackwood wrote that COVID had taken a dear friend from their ranks.

Norman left the Orange County Sheriff's Office a few years ago to work for Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.

"Many of us have fond memories of his years of dedicated service here in Orange County," read the post. "His loss leaves a void and pain in our hearts. Please keep his family, and his extended family in Guilford County in your thoughts and prayers. Rest Easy Brother.
