FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Three new long-term care facilities have been built at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center on Ramsey Street.

The staff at the VA Medical Center, who take care of service members from all branches, spent the weekend getting the rooms ready.

On Monday, 13 veterans moved into their new rooms at the facility.

13 veterans moved into their new rooms at this facility on Monday.

These are senior vets who served in Korea and Vietnam. The logistics of moving them into a coronavirus-free environment took a special team.

Spencer Dickens Jr. is the chief nurse who coordinated the move. He says it was a touching moment to see tears flow from the veterans' eyes when they saw their new rooms for the very first time.

For the past month, family members have not been allowed to see their loved ones in person because of the coronavirus outbreak. The telecommunications team has provided iPads so families can see and speak with residents.

But now that the new rooms are on the first floor with windows, there's hope the families can make window visits in the near future. Maintaining communication with families is a priority.

There's room in the facility for 10 more veterans. The VA will move as quickly as possible to make sure they can safely move those veterans into their new rooms.

The video says it plain and simple: "Welcome Home."
