Durham restaurant owners navigate uncertain future amid coronavirus
Cuban restaurant COPA is celebrating its second anniversary in the Bull City, while trying to navigate an uncertain future due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Posted — UpdatedTurnbull isn't alone. Hundreds of restaurants and thousands of workers are scrambling to stay afloat amid the virus, which prompted Gov. Roy Cooper to suspend in-restaurant dining in the state.
"I can work with my banks. I can work with my lenders. I can figure out how to pay off debt but what matters is that my team members who have trusted me to provide them a living wage and a livelihood- that I can help with that responsibility,” Turnbull said.
“Our busiest night was Friday and that’s true anyway so we see the same trends in general but everything is different right now,” Hecker said.
To help with curbside pick-up, the City of Durham has even provided metered parking spaces on the street for customers.
“We just need folk to order," Turnbull said.
Brewery Bhavana and MOFU Shoppe, also in downtown Raleigh, and Nana's in Durham are among the restaurants that have opted forgo or stop take-out services altogether.
