DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Police officers honored a new graduate with a surprise, special celebration.

After all, this graduate's dream is to become a member of the Durham Police Department someday--a homicide investigator to be exact.

Like many other 2020 grads, Raymond Pamplin had to miss the milestone of a regular graduation ceremony.

But police made sure Pamplin's achievement was marked, driving a parade of police cars past his house and stopping to give him a graduation card, some of his favorite snacks and--most touching of all--a book full of encouraging words written by Durham officers.

Pamplin has been accepted into Winston-Salem State University and plans to major in criminal justice.

A Facebook group called '2020 Adopt a Senior North Carolina Edition' featured Pamplin. Given his ambition of becoming a member of the DPD, he seemed like the perfect senior to celebrate and encourage.

According to a post on the DPD's Facebook page, Pamplin was discovered by Squad 5A Officer M.M. Adkins. Officer Adkins wanted to show the graduate that the DPD supports his big dreams and future plans.

Two K9s even joined the celebration.

"Congratulations Raymond! Best wishes from the DPD family," wrote the DPD on their Facebook.
