RALEIGH, N.C. — Due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 and the infectious Delta variant, the Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo is being postponed until next year.

The two upcoming food truck rodeo events, originally scheduled for Sept. 26 and Nov. 7, have been rescheduled for May 2022.

"The current pandemic infection rates and hospitalizations are close to an all time high," they wrote on their Facebook page. "This is a unique, crowded outdoor food and dining event that poses an higher-than-average risk for community spread with the Delta variant."

The organizers canceled a food truck rodeo that was supposed to be on August 1, around the time the COVID numbers had begun sharply increasing.

"It appears crazy contagious, even outdoors," organizers said.

There are over 3,000 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, which is close to how high numbers got during the peak of the pandemic last winter. In September, there has been a rolling average of between 6,000 and 7,000 new cases per day.

The event organizers say they want to error on the side of caution when it comes to public safety.

In their post, they request that the community come together to support their favorite local food trucks during this time of economic strain.

"We look forward to seeing everyone in the spring," they wrote.
