FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County Health Department has suspended its two coronavirus testing sites so staff can turn their full attention to scaling up vaccination efforts.
The county had provided drive-thru testing twice a week at Manna Church on Cliffdale Road and Second Missionary Baptist Church on Old Wilmington Road.

Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green said the suspension is merely a manpower issue, noting her staff also is responsible for contact tracing for people who test positive.

"We’re also the same team that is doing the vaccination, and we’re maintaining our normal health department services as well," Green said.

In order to pull that off, she said, her staff has to be able to shift around resources as needed. Right now, the most pressing need is to get doses of coronavirus vaccine into the arms of local health workers and seniors, she said.

"We know there are large numbers of people that will need vaccinations, and to continue to practice our 'three W's,' to have that many people at the health department at one time can create some challenges," she said.
Green is encouraging people who want or need to get tested for coronavirus to make appointments with CVS and Walgreens, which both offer drive-thru testing, or a health care provider.
