RALEIGH, N.C. — As the number of daily coronavirus cases across the country hit a milestone on Saturday, several large gatherings proceeded as normal in the Triangle.

More than 3,000 were expected to attend the Carolina Games Summit -XP League North American Finals at the Raleigh Convention Center.

The moment guests walk in, they'll be given a a mask if they don't have one. Attendees are also required to go through temperature screens.

The creative director for the event, Michael Everett, said staff has precautions in place to prevent the summit from becoming a superspreader event.

"We're checking temperatures at the door seems like an easy thing to do. Also, having masks at the doors [and] having those be free," he said. "I'm surprised how many people have picked those up. We really sanitize every night. We have a lot of controllers."

Some of the gamers at the summit wore masks. Some guests in the crowds and others walking throughout the venue weren’t wearing face coverings.

"It's highly recommended [to wear a mask.] Our staff, I can dictate [them wearing a mask.] A lot of people will be eating and doing various things they might pull their mask off, but we are doing everything we can require that [people wear masks,]" said Everett.

Event organizers also encouraged guests to bring their gaming controllers, computers, and consoles to eliminate all the touching.
