RALEIGH, N.C. — Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh reported five new coronavirus cases at the school Monday, bringing the total number of cases there to 11.

The school sent out a letter to families saying eight of the total cases were related and that the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed them as a cluster.

Jeff Bell, the head of school at Cardinal Gibbons, said the virus was contracted off campus.

Bell asked parents that, if their child was at risk of contracting the virus from an off-campus gathering, to keep the student at home until parents were sure the student does not have coronavirus.

He added "if it does become clear that a student is knowingly putting our community at risk, then we may require online learning for a period of time."
