Durham County has the highest spread of coronavirus in the state, according to a newly released map from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC moved Durham County into the orange, or high, zone for spread of the virus. The percent positivity rate for the state through Monday is 12.52 percent, data from the CDC showed.

Alamance, Bladen, Davie, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Hyde, Madison, Person, Stokes, Surry, Vance, Wake, Warren and Yadkin counties were classified as areas with medium spread.

Earlier this week, wastewater data showed there's been a 40 percent increase in COVID-19 particles this week when compared to last week, according to data from the state Department of Health and Human Services.

State data shows more than 27,000 new coronavirus cases were added this week, which by comparison to the virus' spike in January is still relatively low.
