RALEIGH, N.C. — BrickUniverse, the massive LEGO fan convention set for Raleigh this month, is still on. But organizers on Wednesday announced some new COVID safety protocols as cases are rising because of the delta variant.

The event, which is scheduled for Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at the Raleigh Convention Center, announced that they will be taking the following steps for the 2021 event:

  • Replacing several of the interactive attractions and building zones with added LEGO displays.
  • Implementing reduced capacity and additional time sessions for each day of the event. The time sessions for each day are 8:00am-10:30am, 11:00am-1:30pm, and 2:00-4:30pm.
  • Increasing event space and aisles to encourage social distancing.
  • Requiring masks at all times. All fans age 2 and older should wear a properly fitting face covering over their nose and mouth at the event, according to BrickUniverse's website.
  • Discontinuing the use of hand stamps for event re-entry. If attendees wish to re-enter during their chosen time session, organizers ask that they keep their ticket with them so it can be rescanned.

"We want everyone to have a fun, yet safe experience at BrickUniverse," says the event organizer Greyson Beights in a press release. "Past attendees before the pandemic may remember the event being packed with people from wall-to-wall. That will simply not be the case for this year's event. For everyone's peace of mind, we are reducing capacity and increasing aisle spaces for a more comfortable, socially distanced experience. Our LEGO artists have been busy building new epic LEGO creations and we are excited for everyone to come see them. "

The event will continue to have lots of LEGO cities and train displays; LEGO Star Wars displays, including a massive interactive Mustafar display; world landmarks in LEGO; LEGO superhero creations and more. Tickets are still available for both days. Because of the limited capacity, they are expected to sell out early, according to the event. Tickets are $18 at the door (if any are available) or $15 online at BrickUniverse's website.
