to talk to a licensed lawyer absolutely free.
This public service is completely anonymous - designed to connect connect you with free legal information.
The mission of the program is to help address the "access to justice gap" by giving people access to an attorney they might not otherwise get.
For those who were not able to call in, there are other options for free or low-cost legal help.
NC Free Legal Answers helps people who aren't sure if they need an attorney, but want answers to specific legal questions. Volunteers can answer questions about non-criminal issues. It could take several weeks to get a response, but the service is free.
Legal Aid of North Carolina also has a helpline: 866-219-5262. Legal Aid can help lower-income residents with things like evictions, domestic violence, government benefits and some employment law issues.
NC Lawyer Referral Service is another option: 919-677-8574. Call this service if you know you need to hire an attorney and Legal Aid of NC can't help. You will be connected with an attorney who will provide a 30-minute consultation for no more than $50.
