Coronavirus outbreak closes daycare center in Fayetteville

"A cluster is defined as five or more cases and ... those cases have to linked together," stated Green.

They were linked and that's why the cases had to be reported. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports five staff members and one child have the virus.

The Cumberland County Health Department is conducting contact tracing.

"We'll work with the facility to do that contact investigation to determine any staff member or child that was in close contact for more than 15 minutes, within six feet," Green said.

The letter from the daycare says the health department will notify parents of children who may have been exposed, the building will undergo a full deep cleaning and no tuition will be charged while the center is shut down.

Green says about all daycare centers are monitoring temperatures of children and cleaning surfaces frequently. She encourages parents to do the same at home before taking a child to a daycare center.

"You can monitor your own child's symptoms especially over a weekend. Keep your children home if they're feeling sick," Green said.
