Cooler weather could produce frost in spots this weekend
Friday will be a wet, cool day, with temperatures decreasing through the afternoon and rain to keep things damp.
Posted — UpdatedNow that the rain is behind us, a beautiful fall weekend is in store, along with the chance for some frost due to the cold mornings.
Friday was cool and wet in the morning hours. The temperatures decreased quickly through the afternoon. Temperatures started out in the upper 60s Friday morning but dropped as the evening continued.
Meteorologist Kat Campbell said that's a trend that will continue this weekend with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s around the region. The better chance for patchy frost will be Sunday morning north and west of the Triangle.
"It is going to be a gorgeous fall weekend," Campbell said. "A frigid start to tomorrow morning. Can't rule out a little bit of patchy frost closer to the Virginia border (for Saturday). I think our higher threat for that will come Sunday morning."
Campbell said the region north of Fayetteville typically sees its first frost Oct. 21-31 with areas south of Fayetteville on Oct. 31 or later.
Highs will struggle to get into the lower 60s on Saturday. That trend will continue with temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s Saturday night. It will be warmer Sunday, reaching the upper 60s.
A warming trend will continue into the week with temperatures getting into the upper 70s by Thursday and Friday.
