Skies clear as storms move out of NC

After a "very active" afternoon, storms had moved out of central North Carolina on Thursday night, meteorologist Mike Maze said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — After a "very active" afternoon, storms had moved out of central North Carolina on Thursday night, meteorologist Mike Maze said.

Wake County and surrounding areas had been under three thunderstorm warnings throughout the day, but the last expired around 6:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch expired at 7:30 p.m.

The system that has been moving over North Carolina included strong winds and a report of a tornado in the eastern part of Caswell County.

A cold front moves in Thursday night, bringing some breeze and quieter skies.

Friday looks pleasant, as the official start of summer will have highs in the mid-to-upper 80s and mostly clear skies.

June 21 is known as the longest day of the year. The sun will rise in Raleigh around 6 a.m., and daylight will extend past 8:30 p.m.
