RALEIGH, N.C. — A cold spell that brought a frost advisory to many central North Carolina counties on Friday morning will leach into the weekend, but at least it will be sunny.

Morning temperatures were down roughly 30 degrees from the same time on Thursday, plummeting 28 degrees in Raleigh and 34 in Siler City. But the high pressure system that's rotating cold, northern air into the region will also keep the skies clear of clouds and rain.

"As long as our flow is coming out of the north, we're going to be seeing temperatures that are pretty chilly, and that will be true through the weekend," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "Our clear skies stick around thanks to the high (pressure), but that high will continue to funnel some colder air into our area."

The high temperature on Friday will climb into the mid-60s, Gardner said, and it won't rise too much from there through the next week. Saturday and Sunday will top out in the high-60s, and the same is true into the middle of the week.

Rain will move back into the region beginning on Monday, and a good chance of precipitation could persist into Thursday.
