RALEIGH, N.C. — If you weren't ready for it, you might be surprised when you step outside Tuesday morning.

Temperatures were at least 10 degrees cooler Tuesday morning than they were Monday, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

Temperatures were in the upper 50s early Tuesday morning and even cooler north of the Triangle. By lunchtime, they will be in the upper 70s, and a high around 82 degrees is expected in Raleigh later in the afternoon.

"The low humidity really feels lovely," Gardner said. "It feels great outside."

According to Gardner, the high pressure system keeping the weather cool and dry will allow for warm air and moisture to make its way back into North Carolina by Wednesday morning.

Some rain will be likely west of the Triangle on Wednesday morning, and thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds will be possible late in the day north of the Triangle.

Raleigh will stay partly cloudy and warmer, with highs in the mid 80s.

Thursday will be warmer, with a high in the low 90s and storms and rain possible.

Friday and the weekend could also see some storms and rain, but the chance for precipitation never rises above 40 percent. It will be hot, but not as hot as last weekend, with highs in the mid 80s.
