GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Goldsboro police say a man wanted in a July 4 rape was recently released from prison after serving time for a 1993 rape conviction.

Jasper Devon Godwin, 40, is wanted on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. Police said he entered through the unlocked front door of a home in northeastern Goldsboro and sexually assaulted the woman.

Godwin was convicted in 1993 of second-degree rape and shoplifting, according to state Department of Correction records. He was released in December after serving 16 years of a maximum 35-year sentence.

DOC records show that while in prison, he racked up 88 infractions, including multiple ones for a sexual act and fighting.

The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry lists Godwin's address as 1304 George St. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 177 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his right arm.
