WASHINGTON — Third District Congressman Walter Jones has introduced legislation that would prevent schools from banning students wearing clothes emblazoned with U.S. flags.

The Farmville Republican's bill would block federal funds to any school or district with a dress code that outlaws displaying the American flag.

A Sampson County school recently dropped its ban on clothing with flags after parents protested that students couldn't honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
